Ecological Reserve – El Angel – Mascarilla Ceramic Center

Frailejones in the Paramo de El Angel

After an early breakfast in Guallupe, we travel approximately three hours to the city of El Angel and the El Angel Ecological Reserve. This reserve contains the unique ecosystem of the paramo, located at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters. The paramo is known for its distinct landscape containing frailejones, plants native to the area, and a multitude of plants and wildlife. In the park, we hike a trail leading to the Voladero lagoon. At the lagoon, we enjoy a picnic and take in the natural beauty of the park. After the hike, we return to the city of El Angel, where we visit a community museum and have lunch. On the return, visitors are given the option of touring a rose plantation in San Isidro or the Mascarilla ceramic center, which is a community project to revive the local cultural traditions. We return in the evening to Guallupe for a delicious dinner and lodging.
